For accompanying persons there will be a number of excursions organized throughout the week of the conference to explore the history, culture, architecture, technology and nature of Dresden. All prices are quoted and payable in Euros incl. VAT.

Monday, June 23
On the traces of Dresden writers, painters and composers

Follow us on the traces of the famous German writers, painters and composers. Get to know the landscape where Schiller wrote the »Ode to Joy«, where Carl Maria von Weber was inspired for the German national Opera »The Hunter´s Bride« and Richard Wagner composed the »Lohengrin« opera.
As impressive as its history is the unique landscape in the Elbe valley. Discover the architecture of the Pillnitz garden designed in perfect harmony with nature. Here you can enjoy the highlight of the European East Asian fashion of the 18th century.
From Pillnitz you will return to Dresden by boat where you are served a typical Saxon coffee break.

Guided visit of the historic city centre of Dresden – The Old Town

You are curious to know why Zwinger Palace was called »Zwinger«, why there is a »Bridge of Sighs« in Dresden and how many rulers are painted on the famous mural painting the »Princes` Procession«?
It is our pleasure to answer all these questions and to make you familiar with our hometown Dresden. On this sightseeing stroll you get to know the most famous sights of the city of Dresden: the Zwinger Palace, the world famous Semper Opera House, the Catholic Court Church, the Royal Palace and the Taschenberg Palace. As well as the longest mural painting realized out of porcelain tiles and the Bruehl Terrace, called »The Balcony of Europe«. The Frauenkirche is going to be the highlight of this visit. Please be aware that all visits are realized from the outside.
In the afternoon there will be free time for a relaxing shopping in downtown Dresden. Your guide will give you recommendations.

Guided tour of the Royal Residence Dresden

The Dresden Royal Palace has risen like Phoenix bird from the ashes. Do you wish to get to know its history and art collections more in details? Come and join this tour! We make you familiar with the history and the reconstruction of the Palace now again being the home of world famous art collections. Get to know the masterpieces of the »New Green Vault«! We show you unique pieces of goldsmith works, like the Golden Coffee Set and the Court of the Mogul. Jousting was an important part of court representation. In the reconstructed Giant Hall you will find many masterpieces of armours. Enchant Ottoman Art at the »Turkish Chamber« and enjoy walking on the »English staircase«! After the guided tour of the Palace you will have time to visit all art collections more intensively on your own. Don´t miss the view from the Hausmannsturm – the tower of the castle. The entrance is included in your ticket. In the afternoon there will be free time for a relaxing shopping in downtown Dresden. Your guide will give you recommendations.

Excursion to the „Saxon Switzerland“

Far away from the busy city of Dresden you will meet wild canyons, romantic hiking paths and a large variety of rocks and mountains offering unforgettable views on a spectacular countryside.

The Königstein fortification is a unique witness of European fortress´ constructions. During the guided tour you will discover the history from late Gothic to the 19th century architecture serving as a prisoners´ camp and military fortress until 1955.

scenic drive through the Saxon Switzerland to the »Bastei«

stay at the »Bastei«
Enjoy this view point – the former bastion – and the monumental bridge construction of Saxon sandstone. During your stay at the Bastei you will be served coffee and cake inside the restaurant overlooking the Elbe river and the panorama of the Saxon Switzerland. On the way back to Dresden we will pass by the former wine villages of Wachwitz and Loschwitz and you get to know the city of Dresden as a city of high tech and baroque, also passing by the Transparent Manufacture of the Volkswagen company.
